"The English Speaking & Anglo-Swiss Club of Lausanne" (ES&ASC) is a social club,
devoted to having fun, whilst sharing a common
language: English. Everyone is welcome to join the ES&ASC - irrespective of
nationality or mother tongue.
Half our members have a mother tongue other than English, and the club is a
great way to practise English and have fun at the same time, meeting new people, socialising
and making new friends.
The club caters for all ages and walks of life to people who are friendly and
enjoy regular get-togethers including cinema, theatre, concerts, museum visits, outings, billiards, talks and other events.
Suggestions from club members regarding possible new activities are highly
appreciated and welcomed by the committee.
This website tells you everything about our club. We hope you will enjoy visiting
it and that the information you find here will make you feel like joining our
club !!
Summer |
In the summer of 1894 the great Irish playwright Oscar Wilde spent two months in Worthing, initially with his wife Constance and his two young sons. It was during this holiday that he wrote his most famous play, The Importance of Being Earnest.
The Wildes stayed at a house called The Haven (demolished in the 1960s). Their visit is commemorated by a Blue Plaque fixed to the sea-end of the east façade of Esplanade Court.
